Menabe Reserve

Menabe Reserve is a protected area in western Madagascar containing diverse ecosystems including dry forests, mangrove zones, and woodland areas. The reserve stretches along the coastal region and protects habitats for many animal and plant species.

The reserve was established in 2007 to protect the natural resources of Madagascar's western region. Its creation came about because of environmental concerns and the need to preserve these ecosystems from further degradation.

Local communities here practice traditional crafts that are deeply connected to the wetland environment, using materials sourced from the surrounding areas. These skills remain visible in the handmade goods and structures found in nearby settlements.

The reserve is home to Madame Berthe's mouse lemur, the world's smallest primate species with a tiny body size. This rare creature inhabits the forest areas here and remains extremely difficult for visitors to spot.
