Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve

Located at the southernmost point of Malawi, Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve spans 135 square kilometers of woodlands, grasslands, and rocky outcrops bordering Mozambique.

The reserve, established in 1953 and expanded in 1975, served as the final natural habitat for Malawi's Black Rhino population before their decline.

Project African Wilderness collaborates with local communities since 2004 to protect wildlife and enhance regional economic development through conservation initiatives.

Visitors require 4x4 vehicles to navigate the reserve's terrain, with Njate Lodge offering six en-suite chalets and Migudu campsite providing basic facilities.

The reserve contains distinct sandstone formations overlooking both the Shire and Zambezi rivers, while lions from Mozambique periodically cross the border into the area.
