Parco nazionale dello Tsavo

Tsavo National Park extends across 21,812 square kilometers and contains savannas, plains, volcanic hills, rivers, and underground water networks.

The park opened in 1948 and was divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West by the Nairobi-Mombasa railway line and road.

The name Tsavo comes from a local hunting tribe language, meaning 'to slaughter', and the Wakamba people represent the main ethnic group in this region.

The park houses elephants, lions, leopards, rhinoceros, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, jackals, hippos, yellow baboons, and numerous bird species.

The Yatta Plateau, stretching 190 kilometers through the park, stands as the longest lava flow formation in the world.
