The area was formerly part of Parung region in Bogor before Depok City was established as an independent municipality in 2000. This transformation led to the reorganization of local administrative structures and boundaries.

The name originates from Sundanese language meaning observation point, reflecting the elevated position of the district at 60 meters above sea level.
