University of Indonesia Central Library, Educational facility in Depok City, Indonesia
University of Indonesia Central Library is a circular structure with granite-clad towers and narrow glazed bands overlooking a campus lake on university grounds. The five-story building contains book collections, study areas, meeting rooms, and computer stations for students and researchers.
The Central Library opened in 2011 after an architectural competition won by Denton Corker Marshall. The design drew inspiration from Indonesian stone tablets, creating a building that connects traditional elements with modern form.
The building merges traditional Indonesian stone tablet design with modern construction, showing how knowledge preservation has evolved over time. Visitors can see this blend of old and new reflected in the spaces and surfaces throughout.
Access is open to all students and researchers who can reach the building through marked pathways and entrances on campus. It helps to understand the site layout by noticing how the building aligns with other campus landmarks like the Rectorate Building.
The structure rises from a grass mound with crisscrossing pathways that connect to major university sites. This deliberate arrangement makes the library a natural gathering point within the campus landscape.
