Cinere, Administrative district in Depok City, Indonesia.
Cinere is a district in Depok City, in the province of West Java, Indonesia, made up of four urban villages: Cinere, Gandul, Pangkalan Jati, and Pangkalanjati Baru. It sits in the northern part of Depok, directly bordering South Jakarta City.
The area was once known as Ci Kanyere and was granted to a VOC employee named Isaac de l'Ostale de Saint Martin during the Dutch colonial period. Over time it grew from a rural landholding into the residential district it is today.
Cinere Mall is a shopping center in the district that draws visitors from surrounding areas and serves as a daily gathering point for residents. The area around it gives a clear sense of how people in this part of Depok City spend their time.
The district connects to Jakarta via toll roads, mainly the Cinere-Serpong and Cinere-Jagorawi routes, which makes travel to the capital fairly direct. Visitors exploring on foot should be aware that residential streets can be narrow and not always set up for walking.
Cinere borders three separate administrative regions at once: South Jakarta City, South Tangerang City in Banten Province, and other districts within Depok itself. This means a short drive from the district can take you across boundaries that separate different provinces.
