Gambir 1, Bus station at Medan Merdeka Timur Road, Jakarta, Indonesia
Gambir 1 is a TransJakarta bus stop on Medan Merdeka Timur Road in central Jakarta, Indonesia. It sits directly in front of the city's main intercity railway terminal and serves Corridor 2 of the city bus rapid transit network.
The TransJakarta network, which this stop is part of, launched in 2004 as the first bus rapid transit system in Southeast Asia. Its placement next to Gambir railway station was planned from the start to make it a key transfer point in the city's public transport layout.
The stop sits in a part of Jakarta where government offices and military buildings are close by, giving the area a formal feel. Commuters and travelers pass through it constantly, using it as a quick link between different parts of the city.
The stop is easy to find because it sits right in front of Gambir railway station, a large building in the center of the city. Those switching between train and bus only need to walk a short distance between the two.
Although the stop takes its name from Gambir railway station next door, it operates as a fully separate part of the TransJakarta system with its own set of rules and entry points. First-time visitors are sometimes surprised to find that sharing a name does not mean sharing a single entrance.
