Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, Supreme Court in Jakarta, Indonesia
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia is the highest legal authority in the country in Jakarta and rules on appeals in civil, criminal, and administrative matters. The building on Medan Merdeka Utara houses hearing chambers, libraries, and archives needed for the administration of justice.
The institution was established after Indonesian independence and took over judicial authority for the entire territory. In 1989 it left its first location at Lapangan Banteng Timur and moved into the current building on Medan Merdeka Utara.
The name 'Dharmmayukti' comes from Sanskrit and means 'For the truest truth', a principle that guides the work of judges. This language also appears in other official symbols of the court.
The court offers online access to legal texts, rulings, and information about ongoing proceedings through a digital platform. Visitor inquiries are usually directed to the information desk, which handles requests for public documents.
The Indonesian judiciary includes over 800 courts at different levels, all organizationally connected to this institution. Fifty justices at this court coordinate the work of about 7000 judges nationwide.
