West Tanjung, subdistrict in South Jakarta City, Jakarta, Indonesia
West Tanjung is a neighborhood in Jagakarsa, Jakarta, where quiet streets contain simple homes, small shops, and schools that shape daily life. The area connects older buildings with newer structures and benefits from proximity to Tanjung Barat train station as well as regular bus and minibus routes running through its streets.
The area was originally farmland and livestock pasture managed as a large estate called Tandjong West by a wealthy owner named Duurkoop. In the 1800s, the Dutch began changing land use by building a dam to create a pond and using water to irrigate rice fields, before the land eventually became part of urban planning in the early 1900s.
The location is easily accessible via Tanjung Barat train station, which is frequently used by commuters and trains. Bus lines and minibus routes run regularly through the area, making navigation straightforward throughout.
The area takes its name from its original designation as Tandjong West, reflecting the time when it was a large estate with distinctive buildings and gardens. Older structures in the smaller alleys still hint at this heritage today, even though most of the original farms have long disappeared.
