Karangsambung-Karangbolong Geopark

Karangsambung-Karangbolong Geopark is a research area with over 40 geological sites showing different rock layers and caves spread across several villages. The terrain also features biological and cultural locations worth exploring.

The site was formally recognized as a geopark in 2018 to preserve and study the varied rock formations from different geological periods. This designation helped promote scientific research and education about Earth's history in the region.

Local communities here take pride in their connection to the land and share how daily life intertwines with the rock formations and caves around them. People use these spaces for celebrations, crafts, and teaching others about their natural surroundings.

Visitors explore the area best with a guide since sites are spread over a large territory and not always easy to locate on your own. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially if planning multiple cave and rock site visits.

Some caves here still show fossil remains of marine creatures, revealing that this area was underwater millions of years ago. These petrified traces tell the story of dramatic shifts in Earth's surface over time.
