Berbak National Park

The park extends across 600 square kilometers of freshwater swamp forest and 1,100 square kilometers of peat swamp forest along the eastern coast of Sumatra.

The Dutch colonial administration first protected the area in 1935, and Indonesia officially designated it as a national park in 1992.

Local communities near the park maintain traditional practices of sustainable resource management while preserving the natural ecosystem for future generations.

Visitors access the park via speed boats along the Batanghari River and Air Hitam Dalam River, with journeys taking approximately three hours from Jambi.

The park contains the largest concentration of ornamental palm species in Indonesia, including the rare daun payung and the red-flowered Lepidonia kingii.
