Jesus Buntu Burake, Bronze statue in Makale, Indonesia.
Jesus Buntu Burake is a 40 meter bronze statue standing on Buntu Burake hill near Makale, with arms extended outward toward the city below. The structure commands the landscape and features viewing areas with views across the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Construction began in 2014 following a public design competition and finished in 2015, overseen by artist Supriadi. The project grew from the community's desire to build a religious monument in the region.
The statue symbolizes Christianity's place in the Tana Toraja region, where traditional beliefs and modern faith practices exist side by side. Visitors notice this blend when observing the landscape and the people around them.
You can reach the statue by car or motorcycle on paved roads up the hill, with parking available near the base. The site is open during daylight hours and provides straightforward access for visitors of varying abilities.
The monument stands at around 1,700 meters elevation and features a glass bridge connecting viewing platforms around the structure. This architectural detail creates an unusual way to explore the monument and its surroundings.
