Palu IV Bridge, Suspension bridge in Palu City, Indonesia
The Palu IV Bridge is an arch structure that crosses the Palu River and connects the eastern district of Besuru with the western district of Lere. The structure features two yellow arches and rises approximately 20.5 meters in height with a central pillar on a small island in the river.
The bridge was inaugurated in 2006 and was the first arch bridge built on the island of Sulawesi. A major earthquake and tsunami in 2018 destroyed the structure, leading to its reconstruction afterward.
The structure connects two neighborhoods and has become an important part of daily movement for residents crossing the river. It represents a practical solution that brings together different parts of the city in people's everyday routines.
The bridge is accessible for both cars and pedestrians and provides a direct route between the two districts. The structure can become slippery during rain, so caution is recommended for motorcyclists and cyclists crossing it.
After its destruction in 2018, the bridge was rebuilt with support from a Japanese development agency, showing how international cooperation aided reconstruction efforts. This project demonstrates the city's resilience and ability to recover from natural disasters.
