Edwards Point, Nature reserve near St Leonards, Victoria, Australia
Edwards Point is a nature reserve situated between two bays at the eastern tip of Bellarine Peninsula. The landscape consists of sandy spits, intertidal flats, and coastal woodlands that span several kilometers.
The area became protected in 1971 to preserve the last remaining coastal forests on the peninsula. This action was necessary because most other woodland areas in the region had already been cleared or heavily altered.
The place draws bird watchers year-round as migratory species stop here during their journeys. Visitors come regularly to observe rare species and photograph them in their natural surroundings.
Several walking trails run through the area and allow visitors to explore different habitats. Parking is available near the main entrances and the terrain is relatively flat and easy to navigate.
The tidal flats here support several wader species that stop over during their long journeys between the continents. This small location plays a significant role for bird populations traveling thousands of miles to reach their destinations.
