Electoral district of Frankston East, Electoral district in Victoria, Australia
The Electoral district of Frankston East was a voting division in southeastern Melbourne that covered multiple residential suburbs in Victoria. It served as the geographic area from which local voters elected their state representative.
This electoral division was created in 1992 from the former Frankston North district and operated for roughly 10 years. It was abolished in 2002 when Victoria redrew its electoral boundaries.
The district reflected the population changes and voting patterns of Melbourne's southeastern suburban communities during the 1990s.
Historical records and maps of this former electoral boundary can be found in archives and through the Victorian Electoral Commission. Local libraries and historical societies in the Frankston area hold materials that show how the district boundaries were drawn.
The sitting member Peter McLellan died on election day in 1999, which triggered a by-election to replace him. This unexpected event had major consequences for which political party would govern Victoria afterward.
