RMIT Building 8, University building in Melbourne central business district, Australia
RMIT Building 8 features a colorful facade with stone elements, exposed piping, and polychromatic brickwork across its nine-story structure at 383 Swanston Street.
The architectural firm Edmond and Corrigan completed this educational structure in 1993, incorporating elements from traditional Melbourne architectural designs into its contemporary form.
The building received recognition through the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Walter Burley Griffin Award for Urban Design in 1995 for its contribution.
Three elevators service the nine floors containing the Swanston Library, Student Union, workshops, computer laboratories, and specialized equipment for architecture and design studies.
The structure displays a polygonal layout that deviates from standard rectangular plans, featuring high-ceiling studios on the top floor overlooking both Swanston and Bowen Streets.
