APA Building, Historical skyscraper in Melbourne, Australia
The APA Building features twelve floors with a corner spire reaching 53 meters in height at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Lane.
Constructed in 1889 during Melbourne's land boom, the structure held the title of Australia's tallest commercial building upon its completion in mid-1890.
The architectural design by Henry Kemp incorporated Queen Anne style elements with vertical proportions, steep roofs, and decorative gables on the upper sections.
The building operated with hydraulic-powered elevators, marking the advancement of civil engineering technology in late nineteenth-century Australian construction methods.
Despite its classification by the National Trust, the building faced demolition in 1980, leaving fragments of its architectural facade attached to neighboring structures.
