Yule House

Yule House is a five-story commercial building on Little Collins Street featuring light cream terracotta tiles with horizontal green tile stripes running between large steel-framed windows. Its column-free floors provide open space for businesses, with shops occupying the ground level.

A fire destroyed the previous building at this location in 1931. Architects Oakley & Parkes then designed and built this new structure using reinforced concrete for fireproofing.

The building reflects a time when designers wanted clean lines and open spaces filled with light, visible in its horizontal striping and expansive windows. The name and date displayed on the facade show how proud people were of this new way of building.

The building sits on Little Collins Street in a walkable downtown location that is easy to find. Ground-level shops face the street and provide immediate access to the structure.

The building's lettering uses the Eric Gill typeface, a respected font design from that era. The construction year and street number are scattered across different horizontal beams, a distinctive feature of streamline moderne design.
