Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre, Swimming center in Queens Domain, Hobart, Australia.
The Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre is a public swimming facility in the Queens Domain area of Hobart, Tasmania. It has a 50-meter pool, a 25-meter leisure pool, diving platforms at different heights, a gym, and a cafe on site.
The facility opened in 1996 as a public leisure centre serving the Hobart region. In 2015 it was officially renamed to honor a local leader who played a key role in its creation.
The centre is a meeting point for swimming families and training groups from across Hobart. In the pools, beginners and competitive swimmers share the water side by side, giving the place a social and sporting energy that is easy to notice.
The centre is open throughout the year and offers on-site childcare, which makes it convenient for parents. Coming in the morning generally means less crowding and easier access to the main pool.
From inside the building, swimmers have a direct view of the Derwent River and kunanyi Mount Wellington, which is rare for an indoor facility. This was a deliberate design choice, and the view can be enjoyed from the pool edge or the cafe.
