District of Woden Valley, Administrative district in Canberra, Australia.
Woden Valley is an administrative district in Canberra comprising twelve residential suburbs arranged around a central commercial hub. The area contains the Westfield Woden shopping center, government buildings, and green spaces distributed among residential neighborhoods.
The name comes from a homestead owned by farmer James Murray, who named it after the Old English deity Woden in 1837. The area developed in 1964 as the first satellite city built outside central Canberra.
The Woden Valley Community Council actively represents residents' interests and maintains engagement with local government on community development matters.
The main bus hub is located at Woden Plaza, which serves as the primary transit point for the district. The area can be explored on foot if you start from the central plaza and work outward toward the neighborhoods.
The Lovett Tower in the area was for many years the tallest building in the entire territory. This structure creates a distinctive landmark visible across much of the district.
