Broken Hill Hospital, Regional hospital in Broken Hill, Australia
The Broken Hill Hospital comprises 80 multifunctional acute beds, emergency services, rehabilitation center, and specialized units for pediatrics and obstetrics.
Sir Henry Parkes inaugurated the hospital in June 1889, establishing the first medical facility in a township where residents previously lived in tents without healthcare.
The hospital grounds include a memorial park created in 1949 to honor Matron Irene Melville Drummond, who lost her life during World War II service.
Located at 176 Thomas Street, the facility operates continuously with departments for radiology, pathology, surgery, mental health, and various medical specialties.
The 2022 redevelopment program includes a $10 million upgrade to create specialized treatment spaces for children and mental health services in the Emergency Department.
