Broken Hill Trades Hall, Labor heritage building in Broken Hill, Australia

The stone Victorian-era structure at 242 Blende Street features a geometric patterned ceiling and houses collections dedicated to labor history.

Completed in 1905 under architect Tom Jackson's design, this building marked the first union-owned property in Australia and headquarters for workers' rights.

The exhibition space contains union banners and picket maps from the 1909 lockout, documenting the industrial relations of mining communities.

Visitors can access the building and view its collections by contacting (08) 8087 3625 for opening hours and tour arrangements.

In 1920, union representatives at this hall secured Australia's first 35-hour work week agreement for underground miners.
