Broken Hill Women's Memorial

The Broken Hill Women's Memorial is a sculpture made from two pieces of black granite with an engraved family image and inscriptions located in the center of Town Square. The stones sit side by side, creating a focal point in the middle of the square.

Funding for the memorial came from money collected by local women during the 1986 mining strike. This financial contribution demonstrates how women backed the labor movement with concrete support.

The memorial honors women who organized protest marches, provided financial support, and stood by miners through multiple labor disputes since the 1890s.

The memorial is centrally located in Town Square and can be easily reached through the main pathways. The site functions as a gathering space for ceremonies and events throughout the year.

The women who inspired this memorial directly confronted strikebreakers at mine entrances. Their hands-on approach to labor solidarity set them apart as active participants in the disputes.
