The garden was started in 1984 by Garrick Hawkins, a former finance professional, who began transforming a working sheep farm into a garden inspired by European parks. The section open to the public first welcomed visitors in 2014, and the property has continued to grow since then.
In autumn, the maple trees draw photographers from across Australia who come specifically for the seasonal colors. Dogs on a leash are welcome, which makes the garden a common destination for families traveling with pets.
The garden is about a two-hour drive from Sydney, and the paths inside are wide and well-maintained, making it easy to walk through even with a stroller. A cafe on site offers a place to rest after exploring, and a restaurant serves meals using ingredients from the surrounding farm.
