Jenolan Caves House, Heritage-listed hotel in Blue Mountains National Park, Australia

Jenolan Caves House is a four-story building featuring limestone facades and deep verandahs that reflect early Australian design from the late 1800s and 1900s. Inside, it offers guest rooms, a restaurant, bar, and event spaces arranged to support visitors spending extended time in the region.

Architect Walter Liberty Vernon designed and built this hotel in stages starting in 1879 to shelter the growing number of visitors coming to explore the cave system. The construction spread over decades as the popularity of touring the caves increased over time.

The building shaped how early travelers experienced the Blue Mountains, offering them a home base that made exploring the remote caves feel accessible rather than adventurous. Today, guests staying here become part of a tradition of curiosity about the natural wonders hidden underground.

The hotel sits right at the cave entrance, putting you within walking distance of the main underground passages and hiking trails around the region. Keep in mind that the mountain location means weather changes quickly, and some areas may feel steep or require good footwear for exploration.

The building stands directly above ancient limestone passages, meaning guest rooms sit just above some of Australia's oldest known underground networks. This direct relationship between accommodation and cave system makes the location particularly special compared to other tourism destinations.
