White Bay Hotel, defunct hotels in Sydney
White Bay Hotel was a pub in Rozelle, Sydney, that served the local community from 1860 until 1992. The brick building on Victoria Road was known for its simple, welcoming design and sat near the White Bay Power Station and other industries in the area.
The original building was constructed in 1860 and relocated in 1915 to make way for a railway line. A new building was rebuilt on the site in 1916 and remained there until a devastating fire in 2008.
The hotel was a gathering place for workers from nearby factories, wharves, and the power station. It served the local community as an everyday spot to relax and connect after work.
The site is not accessible today as the land is empty and designated for future development. Visitors can view the location from Victoria Road, where parts of the neighborhood's industrial history remain visible.
The hotel's original license is said to be one of the oldest in Australia and was passed down through generations. After the fire in 2008 and demolition, the land was kept empty as part of broader neighborhood redevelopment plans for the area.
