Clarence Street Police Station

The four-story brick structure at 281 Clarence Street features an atrium through its center and displays the construction date 1891 on its facade.

The police station operated near Darling Harbour docks from 1891 to 1967, serving as a government presence during industrial conflicts between workers and employers.

The Victorian-era building, designed by government architect James Barnet, represents law enforcement architecture and social structures of nineteenth-century New South Wales.

The building contains barrel-vaulted brick ceilings in former cells, timber floors across levels, and maintains its original structural elements despite modern modifications.

A terrace-width setback on the third floor creates an architectural distinction, while the atrium features 45-degree pitched glass louvres along each side.
