Nundah Cemetery, Heritage cemetery in Nundah, Australia.
Nundah Cemetery is a burial ground that spans four acres on a small ridge near Kedron Brook in Brisbane. The grounds contain numerous memorial stones and a shelter pavilion built in 1914 that provides shade for visitors.
German Lutheran missionaries established this cemetery in 1846 as a marker of Queensland's first free settlement. The site represents an important location in the region's early European colonization.
The gravestones show different building styles from different decades and tell the story of German settlers and other European immigrants who shaped Brisbane. You can see the different craftsmanship and materials used in the memorials as you walk through the grounds.
Brisbane City Council manages this cemetery, which closed to new burials in 1963 but allows the placement of cremated remains in existing family plots. Visitors should walk on even paths and respect the quiet nature of the grounds.
The cemetery contains graves of several political figures, including Premier James Dickson and four-time Brisbane Mayor John McMaster. Seven Commonwealth War service personnel are also buried here.
