Family Services Building, Historic government building in Brisbane, Australia
The Family Services Building at 171 George Street features sandstone facades, granite base, and three corner pavilions with marble-finished vestibules and decorative plaster cornices.
Completed in 1922, this eight-story structure served as Queensland's first government high-rise office block and initially housed the Queensland Government Savings Bank headquarters.
The building's architectural elements include sculptural works representing commerce and industry, supported by arched semicircular pediments and vertical stone cornices.
The ground floor contains public entrances through three corner pavilions, providing access to various government departments and services within the building.
The steel-framed construction encountered delays due to material shortages, extending the building period from 1914 to 1922 after foundation work began in 1913.
