Allan and Stark Building, Heritage building in Brisbane, Australia
The Allan and Stark Building features three and four-story brick structures with classical details, arched openings, pilasters, and decorative cornices on Queen Street.
James Allan and Robert Stark established their drapery business in South Brisbane in 1882 before relocating north after the floods of 1893.
The structure represents the commercial transformation of Brisbane's urban landscape during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries through its architectural elements.
The building contains preserved historical materials, including timber joists and pressed metal ceilings, which demonstrate construction methods from different periods.
The building complex developed gradually from 1881 through the 1920s, maintaining visual continuity despite being constructed at different times.
