Brisbane Arcade, Art Deco shopping arcade in Brisbane CBD, Australia
The three-story arcade connects Queen Street and Adelaide Street through a central passage illuminated by clerestory windows and lined with forty retail spaces.
Built in 1923 by Dr James Mayne and his sister Mary Emelia Mayne, the arcade opened its doors in 1924 as Brisbane's first shopping passage.
The proceeds from the arcade support the University of Queensland's School of Medicine, creating a lasting connection between commerce and education.
Visitors can explore twenty ground-level shops and twenty first-floor boutiques offering fashion, jewelry, and specialty items in the central business district.
The original terrazzo finishes in access stairways and classical design elements with triangular pediments remain preserved since its 1924 construction.
