The Grand Hotel stands at 36 Stansfield Street, featuring traditional Queensland architectural elements with timber-framed construction and large verandas on both floors.
William Henry Allan Munro designed this two-story establishment in 1910, making it the largest timber hotel in northwestern Queensland at that time.
The structure remained a central meeting point for local residents until 2004, hosting numerous social gatherings and serving as military accommodation during World War II.
The hotel closed in 2004 due to increased insurance costs and fire regulations, later receiving heritage status in 2007 before its destruction by fire in 2018.
Mary Robinson, the first owner, successfully opened the hotel despite an earlier arson attempt, marking the beginning of its complex relationship with fire.
