Denigomodu District

Denigomodu is an administrative district in western Nauru and the most densely populated of the island's thirteen districts. It contains the main hospital serving the population and an educational center that serves students from grades seven through nine.

The district took its current administrative shape in 1968 when Nauru became independent and reorganized its government. This restructuring established the foundation for how the country's divisions function today.

English and Nauruan are both heard regularly throughout the district, particularly in The Location settlement where expatriate families have made their homes. This language mix reflects how the community has developed over time through migration and work.

Medical services are centralized at the hospital, which is the main healthcare facility for the district. Visitors or residents needing services should plan their visits accordingly, as this is the primary center for health care.

The district was linked from the start to phosphate mining, the island's primary economic driver, with housing built specifically for mining workers. This deep connection to the extraction industry shaped how the area developed and its role in the nation's economy.
