Innoko National Wildlife Refuge

The refuge spans 4.6 million acres of wetlands, black spruce forests, and slow-moving rivers between Southwest and Interior Alaska regions.

The United States Congress established Innoko National Wildlife Refuge in 1980 through the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.

The land encompasses traditional territories of Athabascan peoples, who maintained deep connections with the regional ecosystems for generations.

Visitors require air transportation from McGrath to access the refuge, as no roads connect to this protected wilderness area.

The refuge contains two distinct units: the 751,000-acre Kaiyah Flats near Yukon River and 3.85 million acres surrounding Innoko River.
