Innoko Wilderness

The Innoko Wilderness spans across 1.24 million acres of black spruce forest, wetlands, and meandering rivers in western Alaska's protected territory.

The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980 established this wilderness area to protect interior Alaska's largest waterfowl habitat.

The territory belongs to the traditional lands of the Koyukon Athabascan people, who maintain subsistence fishing and hunting camps throughout the region.

Access to the wilderness requires travel by small aircraft or waterways, as no roads connect this remote area to urban centers.

The coffee-colored waters of the Innoko River system contain substantial populations of northern pike and support extensive waterfowl nesting grounds.
