Brown & Hawkins Store
Brown & Hawkins Store, Commercial building in Seward, United States.
The Brown & Hawkins Store features large display windows, a central entry with transom windows, and exterior stairs leading to an upper floor.
Founded in 1904 by Charles Brown and T.W. Hawkins, the store supported construction workers of the Alaska Central Railroad and local residents.
The second floor, known as Brown & Hawkins Hall, served as a gathering space for social events before its conversion into residential apartments.
The building reopened in 2019 under new ownership, transforming the historic commercial space into an art gallery that maintains its heritage elements.
Brown & Hawkins operated five warehouses in Seward and provided supplies along the Iditarod Trail to mining districts in the Susitna River basin.
