Anchorage Alaska Temple, Mormon temple in south Anchorage, United States.
The Anchorage Alaska Temple is a church building in south Anchorage, Alaska, with exterior walls of gray and white granite flecked with quartz. A single spire rises from the roof and is topped with a statue of the angel Moroni.
The building opened in 1999 as the first house of worship of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state of Alaska. It was completed just nine months after the groundbreaking ceremony.
The outer walls display the seven stars of the Big Dipper and the North Star, both drawn from Alaska's state flag. These motifs connect the building's religious purpose to a recognizable symbol of local identity.
The building sits in a residential area in south Anchorage and can be reached via Brayton Drive. As an active place of worship, the interior is generally open only to members, but the grounds can be visited from outside.
Starting in 2024, the building is undergoing a major expansion that will roughly triple its floor area, from around 1,000 to about 2,800 square meters. Part of the original structure remains in use throughout the construction work.
