Sistema de Tren Eléctrico Urbano, Urban rail transit system in Guadalajara, Mexico
The Sistema de Tren Eléctrico Urbano is a three-line electric rail network connecting Guadalajara, Zapopan, and Tlaquepaque across approximately 47 kilometers. The system includes 48 stations distributed throughout these municipalities.
The first line opened in 1989 after infrastructure construction began in 1974. The network has since expanded to serve the growing transportation needs of the region.
The stations serve as meeting points where locals from different neighborhoods come together in their daily routines. These spaces reflect how the city weaves different communities into a shared daily rhythm.
The network carries around 240,000 passengers daily through a well-organized system of stops. Trains provide a dependable and affordable way for visitors to navigate the region.
Line 3 features both elevated and underground sections, with tunnels descending to 30 meters below the historic center. This engineering approach allows the system to route traffic through older neighborhoods without disrupting what lies above.
