RMS Queen Mary

The RMS Queen Mary is a permanently moored passenger ship in Long Beach that now serves as a floating museum, hotel and restaurant. Its three red and black smokestacks rise above the white superstructure and black hull that stretches 1019 feet (310 meters).

The ship entered service in 1936 and carried passengers across the Atlantic until it served as a troop transport during World War II. After the war it returned to passenger service before arriving in California in 1967.

The restored lounges and corridors display the craftsmanship of the 1930s, with period furniture and paneling that recreate the transatlantic luxury of that era. Visitors today see original design elements that recall the time when the ship carried prominent passengers between Europe and America.

The decks and interiors can be toured through guided walks or by self-exploration, with some areas requiring stairs that lead upward. Cabins are available for overnight stays, and several restaurants offer meals with views of the harbor.

The navigation bridge preserves the original steering instruments and brass telegraphs that once transmitted orders to the engine room. These devices still show the handwork and mechanics that were used before digital navigation.
