Cooper Arms Apartments

The Cooper Arms Apartments is a twelve-story structure made of steel-reinforced concrete with brick walls finished in stucco, standing at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Linden Avenue. The building contains 159 residential units distributed across its floors, with decorative elements throughout.

Construction was completed in 1923, making it the most substantial building investment Long Beach had experienced up to that point. The project marked a turning point in the city's growth and demonstrated its emergence as an important commercial hub.

The building displays Renaissance Revival features mixed with Egyptian-inspired details that reflected the tastes of 1920s California. These blended styles show how cosmopolitan styles came together in the apartment design.

The building sits in a central downtown location that is easy to walk around and clearly visible from the street. A ground-level garden along Ocean Boulevard and a Spanish-style loggia extending to Linden Avenue provide outdoor spaces to view.

The twelfth floor contains an original ballroom with a domed ceiling and period lanterns from the 1920s that showcase the craftsmanship rarely seen in modern construction. The ornate details in this space reveal the quality of interior design from that era.
