The Pike, Seaside amusement park in Long Beach, California
The Pike was a seaside amusement park in Long Beach with roller coasters, carousels, and entertainment venues arranged along a wooden boardwalk near the water. The site spread across several city blocks and included rides, game booths, dining establishments, and performance halls.
The site began in 1902 as a bathhouse and gradually transformed into a major amusement park with numerous attractions through the mid-twentieth century. It grew alongside Long Beach's harbor development and served as a major destination for families and visitors from the surrounding region for decades.
The Pike regularly hosted performances by local musicians, circus acts, and vaudeville shows, becoming a center for entertainment in Southern California.
The park sat near the harbor and was readily accessible by public transportation, making it easy for visitors to arrive. The grounds offered ample parking and multiple entry points throughout the site.
The Cyclone Racer featured dual wooden tracks running side by side over the water, making it the only double-track racing coaster in the country. This design allowed two trains to race simultaneously, giving riders a thrilling competitive experience on the same structure.
