Villa Riviera, French Gothic residential building in Long Beach, California.
The Villa Riviera rises sixteen stories along Ocean Boulevard, featuring an octagonal tower topped with oxidized copper and animal grotesques along upper floors.
Completed in 1929 for 2.75 million dollars, the structure remained the second-tallest building in Southern California until 1955, following Los Angeles City Hall.
The building changed from a luxury cooperative to Naval officers' residence during World War II, with its tower supporting coastal surveillance operations.
The property includes 130 condominium units, a grand ballroom, rooftop terraces, high-speed elevators, and a 100-car garage for residents.
The steel skeleton construction by McClintic-Marshall proved effective when the building sustained no structural damage during the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.
