South Park, Administrative district in Downtown Los Angeles, US.
South Park is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles, roughly bounded by South Broadway, West 12th Street, and South Main Street. It is made up mostly of low-rise apartment buildings, local shops, and small restaurants along tightly built blocks.
The area was once an industrial zone with warehouses and light manufacturing that gradually emptied out over the course of the 20th century. Redevelopment over several decades turned it into the mixed residential and commercial district it is today.
Mexican and Salvadoran influences shape the street life here, with shops, restaurants, and markets that carry Spanish-language signs and sell ingredients from Central America. Walking through the area feels like moving through a working neighborhood where daily routines happen loudly and openly on the sidewalk.
The neighborhood is well connected to public transit lines running through Downtown Los Angeles and is easy to walk within the central blocks. The local recreation center offers tennis courts and a swimming pool that are open to visitors.
Inside the recreation center grounds, an original water well and pump house from 1900 are still in working order. Most visitors never notice them because they sit quietly beneath the surface of everyday park life.
