1100 Wilshire is a modern skyscraper in downtown Los Angeles with 37 stories constructed from glass and steel. The upper floors contain residential units with city views, while the lower section functions as a parking structure for residents and visitors.
1100 Wilshire was completed in 1987 as an office tower designed by AC Martin Partners. It proved unsuccessful as an office building and sat nearly vacant for almost two decades. In the mid-2000s, Hampton Development, TMG Partners and Forest City Residential bought it for $40 million and converted it into 228 owner-occupied condominiums between 2005 and 2006.
The building demonstrates the evolution of Los Angeles urban development, converting from commercial to residential use to meet changing city demands.
The tower stands at 1100 Wilshire Boulevard in Westlake, northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Its lower 16 floors are mainly a parking structure, with commercial space at street level, so the building is seen from the sidewalk rather than toured inside.
A promotional event in 2014 featured television personality John Walsh parachuting from the building to demonstrate a medical alert system.
