1100 Wilshire, Modern skyscraper in Downtown Los Angeles, United States
1100 Wilshire is a modern skyscraper in downtown Los Angeles with 37 stories constructed from glass and steel. The upper floors contain residential units with city views, while the lower section functions as a parking structure for residents and visitors.
The building was completed in 1985 as an office tower and sat largely vacant for about two decades. A major conversion to residential condominiums beginning in 2005 revitalized the structure and gave it new purpose.
The building demonstrates the evolution of Los Angeles urban development, converting from commercial to residential use to meet changing city demands.
The residential sections are accessed through separate building entrances from street level. Most visitors can see the building from the surrounding area, though access to interior spaces is limited to residents and authorized guests.
A promotional event in 2014 featured television personality John Walsh parachuting from the building to demonstrate a medical alert system.
