Petersen Automotive Museum
Petersen Automotive Museum, Automobile museum in Miracle Mile, Los Angeles, US.
The Petersen Automotive Museum is an automobile museum in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles, displaying over 250 rare and classic vehicles across several galleries. The building rises four stories and features a metal exterior wrapped in flowing steel ribbons that give it a recognizable appearance.
A publishing company founded this museum in 1994 inside a former department store that operated between 1962 and 1986. The external steel cladding was added later to give the building a contemporary look.
The building carries the name of its founder, a publisher of automotive magazines who documented California's enthusiasm for vehicles. Visitors today see how individual car designs shaped ideas of mobility and freedom in this city.
This museum sits at 6060 Wilshire Boulevard and opens daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. Guided tours through the basement vault can be reserved in advance.
A vault room in the basement stores additional vehicles, including prototypes and racing cars not shown in the regular exhibitions. This collection can only be viewed through special guided tours.
