Venice Beach Skate Park, Concrete skatepark at Venice Beach, Los Angeles, US.
Venice Beach Skate Park is a concrete skating facility on the Pacific Ocean boardwalk in Los Angeles, right where Ocean Front Walk meets Windward Avenue. It features multiple bowls, ramps, stairs, and rails spread across an open area with a direct view of the beach.
The park opened in 2009, replacing the informal street spots where skaters had gathered along Venice Beach for decades. The project came out of years of community efforts to secure a permanent and public place for the sport.
The park is named after Dennis 'Polar Bear' Agnew, a respected skater from the local community, which reflects how deeply skateboarding is rooted in this part of Los Angeles. Visitors can watch riders of all ages and levels practicing tricks just steps from the water.
The skatepark is located along Ocean Front Walk in Venice and is easy to reach on foot or by bike from the surrounding area. Going early in the morning or late in the afternoon tends to be more comfortable, as the sun is lower and there are fewer people around.
In 2020, the entire concrete surface of the park was covered with sand to prevent people from gathering there during pandemic restrictions. The images of a buried skatepark by the ocean circulated widely and drew attention to how public spaces were managed at the time.
