Palisades Park

Palisades Park sits atop coastal cliffs in Santa Monica overlooking the bay and ocean with views in multiple directions. The grounds include paved walkways, scattered seating, picnic areas, and restrooms available throughout the space.

The land was gifted to Santa Monica in 1892 by two local landowners who recognized its value as public space. The property received its current name in 1915 after previously being called by a different title.

The Camera Obscura Art Lab and wooden sculptures create focal points throughout the grounds. These installations attract visitors who take time to explore the creative expressions displayed among the landscaping.

The space opens daily and provides multiple spots for sitting and viewing across the bluffs. Late afternoon or early morning visits tend to offer fewer crowds and better lighting for photos or simply enjoying the water views.

The park hosts more than 30 tree species including Monterey cypress, Indian laurel fig, and various eucalyptus and palm varieties. This botanical range creates pockets of shade and greenery that contrast with the open ocean views at the cliff edges.
