Auditorium, Event venue at Torrance High School, California
The Torrance High School Auditorium is a PWA Moderne building with streamlined forms and modern construction materials completed in 1938. Its design reflects the clean lines and efficiency typical of this architectural style from that era.
The building was reconstructed after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake as part of the New Deal recovery programs. Its completion in 1938 marked an important moment in Torrance's rebuilding and community renewal.
This was the first large meeting hall built in Torrance and served as a gathering place for the young community. You can sense how it connected generations of students and families during school events and local celebrations.
The auditorium is located on the high school campus and remains active for events throughout the school year. Plan your visit in advance to learn about access times and any ongoing activities at the venue.
The building was designed by architect Abraham Wesley Eager and earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This recognition highlights the architectural importance of PWA Moderne design in Southern California.
