The Comedy Store

The Comedy Store is a stand-up comedy venue on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California. The building houses three separate performance rooms with different sizes and atmospheres for nightly programs.

Sammy and Mitzi Shore opened the club in 1972 in a building that previously housed Club Seville and then Ciro's, a well-known nightclub of the 1940s and 1950s. A performer strike in 1979 resulted in comedians receiving payment for their sets.

Comedians call the venue a training ground where they test new jokes and refine their craft in front of audiences who attend shows regularly. Guests see performances from recognizable names and rising talent in a room known for improvisation and spontaneous moments.

Multiple shows run every evening, and guests can purchase admission online or at the door. Drinks and food are served during performances, and seating is assigned on availability.

The building once housed Ciro's, where Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin performed before it became a comedy stage. The Belly Room upstairs holds only about 40 seats and is often used for experimental sets.
