Bronson Canyon, Movie filming location in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, US.
Bronson Canyon is a former quarry in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, California, now open as a park area. The tunnel with three passageways sits embedded in the rock walls and extends roughly 50 feet into the stone.
The Union Rock Company established the quarry in 1903 and extracted stone there until the late 1920s, creating the caves that remain today. After closure, the city took over the site and incorporated it into the public park area.
The tunnel entrance appears in countless westerns, science fiction series, and adventure films, giving it a familiar presence for movie fans. Many visitors come here to recreate scenes they recognize from productions of the 1960s and 1970s.
Access is through a roughly 0.7-mile hiking trail starting from Canyon Drive, with parking at the upper and lower areas. The path is easy to walk and leads directly to the tunnel opening, making it manageable for families with children.
The V-shaped arrangement of the rock walls creates an optical illusion on film, making the small area appear as a vast mountain range. Many film crews use this effect to imitate outdoor shots in exotic or remote landscapes without leaving the city area.
